Why do I look at shopping as therapy?

Stress reliever: After a day's work plus all the stresses involved, one can drown all the frustrations by going out to buy anything. This could include chocolates, ice cream, to name but a few.

It brings some excitement: This is true in those instances where an individual has longed to buy or own a certain item without success due to cost limitations. However during a particular shopping spree, should this individual happen to land in a shop that offers the same commodity at a reasonable price, I tend to believe that the levels of excitement associated with this discovery are not measurable.

It creates avenues for networking: By cruising in different shopping outlets, one gets an opportunity to bump into friends or even create friendships. This usually is true where a person feels less valued, but upon going out to shop, she or he meets another shopper who asks for an opinion on what they have plan to buy. Trust me, It feels good when you help a fellow customer leave a shopping mall with an item that looks good on them, by giving them honest feedback.

No manual: Close to 90 per cent of an individuals' time is governed by certain norms and practices. It makes one feel as though we are living in an open prison. This however isn't the case when it comes to shopping. There are no hard and fast rules on how, when or even where to shop. All these decisions are left to the individuals' discretion. All that an individual requires to adhere to when out shopping is their fashion style and money.

Brings out in us an innate decision-making prowess: When shopping, one is able to choose where to shop, what items to buy, the total monies available for spending. The decision-making prowess is best demonstrated when one chooses to buy a particular item over the other.

Shopping is therefore therapeutic in so many ways. One doesn't need to have money to go out shopping. This is so because window shopping it itself can offer the above therapeutic benefits. All that is required is for one to avoid becoming a shopping addict as this will imply that the individual starts shopping around for a rehabilitation centre for shopping addicts.

Enjoy your shopping spree.
